With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled much of this page with drawings taken around the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy. At the centre of the page is a depiction of the tower at Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. A colour study was subsequent worked up of this site: see Tate D20219 (Turner Bequest CCXX L). Just below, inverted in relation to the drawings above, is a study of bending female figures.
