This view of Salzburg’s Kapuzinerberg and Steingasse is continued from the folio opposite (Tate D29969; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 78a).
With the sketchbook orientated inversely to the view of Salzburg, Turner has also produced a view of Wasserburg am Inn, a town he passed on the journey from Munich to Salzburg (see also Tate D29966–D29967; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 77–77a). The view in inscribed ‘Wasserburg’ at top centre towards left, ‘River Inn’ at centre towards left and ‘Road’ centre.
