Finberg noted that this drawing was badly damaged in the 1928 Tate Gallery flood and is ‘a soiled shadow of its former self. But only those who remember what it once was wd. know it had been ruined. Fortunately the reproduction in the Pall Mall  proves how bright and vivid it was before the flood’..
