The drawing at top right most likely depicts the Church of St Edmund at Southwold, Suffolk (Tate D18252; Turner Bequest CCIX 49). This may indicate, then, that the coastal scenes rendered below the church also show that town and its environs. These scenes have been executed with the sketchbook turned upside down.
