Schloss Rosenstein in Stuttgart is shown in the sketch at the top, inscribed ‘9’ for the number of bays on the palace (see Tate D29899; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 43a). Below is a view of Berg and Cannstatt, which extends onto the folio opposite (Tate D29902; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 45). Berg, depicted at left, is situated close to Schloss Rosenstein, before a bend in the Neckar. The spire of the Church at Berg can be seen rising above the rooftops. ‘Weeler Berg’ is inscribed. With the sketchbook turned upside down relative to the foliation Turner has also produced a rough sketch of an elaborate gateway, illegibly inscribed by the artist.
