At the top right is a study of a three-masted ship under full sail. It may be shown again at the bottom centre among smaller sailing boats. At the top left a separate sketch, made with the page turned vertically, shows a group of figures, perhaps in a small boat, off the starboard bow of a large vessel. Technical notes:
Part of the outer edge of the page appears to have been accidentally caught and folded back, forming a shallow crescent.
