These four landscape sketches represent on-the-spot views seen from the inland road between Naples and Salerno although it is not clear in which direction Turner was travelling. The uppermost vista represents the peak of Monte San Liberatore, part of the Lattari mountain range, looking south-east seen from Cava dei Tirreni, whilst the lower scenes depict distant views of Vesuvius, looking north from Nocera dei Pagani (present-day Nocera Inferiore). The artist has annotated his drawings with colour notes. At the bottom of the page are some rough studies of figures and hats.
