Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Despite Turner’s inscription the subject of landscape sketch on the right-hand side of the page is currently unidentified. The rough and shaky lines suggest that it was drawn on the road from a moving carriage. Also on the sheet is a swift study of a female figure, possibly observed at Ancona.
