At the top of the page is a study of a cloudy sky with the following colour notes: ‘Dark WB Cloud’ left running vertically, ‘B’ top left, ‘B’ upper centre left, ‘G light’ centre left, ‘Purple’ bottom centre left, ‘Blue black’ bottom centre, ‘L[...]’ bottom right; ‘Purple shadow Red [?]lights’ bottom right.
Across the lower half of the page, drawn in black ink, are diagrams of panelling or ornamentation which relates to several sketches of an oak chest at Farnley Hall; see folio 6 (Tate D18533; Turner Bequest CCXI 6).
At the bottom of the page is the continuation of a sketch of a river scene from folio 39 verso (Tate D18586; Turner Bequest CCXI 39a) with the inscription ‘Purple shadow Red [?]lights’.
