At the bottom left is a view of St Clement’s Church, Sandwich, with its Romanesque tower, from the north-east. There is a separate study of a window, and numbers noting elements of the building’s articulation.
Along the top edge of the page, inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, is a view of Sandwich including the church, looking west up the River Stour past St Clement’s towards the ogee dome of St Peter’s Church near the centre; it continues a little way onto folio 41 recto opposite (D35829; Turner Bequest CCCLXIII 40).
