This drawing looks back down the Arve Valley and Pelissier gorge to the castle and Tour St Michel. Turner drew similar views on his tour with H.A.J. Munro of Novar in 1836 (see, from the Val d’Aosta sketchbook, Tate D29085; Turner Bequest CCXCIII 27a, and a drawing on a separate sheet, Tate D34285; Turner Bequest CCCXLII 82).
