Burg Rheinstein is depicted below the inscription ‘Reinstein’ parallel to the gutter of the sketchbook. Perched on a steep cliff overlooking the Rhine, the Burg Rheinstein is a few moments upstream from the Burg Reichenstein, which is depicted in the remaining sketches (see Tate D29729; Turner Bequest CCXCVI 68a). The Klemenskappelle, a small chapel dedicated to St Clement, can be seen clearly to the left of Burg Reichenstein in one of the views.
