The Turner scholar C.F. Bell annotated Finberg’s 1909 Inventory entry (‘The Piazzetta’): ‘Corner of Doge’s Palace r Campanile, Libraria & Columns from Molo’.1 This faint outline sketch shows the view north-west into the Piazzetta from the Molo in front of the Doge’s Palace. Turner had made a drawing in somewhat more detail from a little further east in the contemporary Milan to Venice sketchbook (Tate D14414; Turner Bequest CLXXV 52a).
For other drawings made in the vicinity, see the sketchbook’s Introduction.
