Inscribed by Turner in pencil ‘Arve’ above river, right of centre
Inscribed by John Ruskin in red ink ‘3’ bottom left, descending vertically
Stamped in black ‘LXXV 3’ bottom left, descending vertically
Blind-stamped with the Turner Bequest monogram towards bottom right
Turner’s inscription indicates the River Arve, which Turner followed on his approach to Chamonix.
