A standing figure is sketched above a view of the Württemberg Mausoleum, a sepulchral chapel situated atop Württemberg (formerly Rotenberg) Hill in Stuttgart. The memorial was built to house the remains of Wilhelm I of Württemberg’s second wife Catherine Pavlovna of Russia (1788–1819). It was designed by the Italian architect Giovanni Salucci who also responsible for Schloss Weil, Wilhelm I’s country retreat depicted on the folio opposite (Tate D29909; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 48a). ‘Mont Rosa | Rosenberg’ is inscribed.
