Turner made a number of sketches in and around Loreto, a city approximately fourteen miles south of Ancona, see folio 10 (D14671). These three landscapes were all drawn from the same location on the road to the south-west of Loreto, but looking in different directions. The view in the lower part of the page shows the valley of the River Musone, with the Adriatic Sea in the background. Meanwhile, the two sketches at the top depict distant views of Recanati, a hilltop town approximately three miles south-west of Loreto. Visible in the foreground of the right-hand prospect is the aqueduct which stretches across the valley between the two locations, see folio 12 verso (D14676).
The building on the far right-hand side of the page belongs to the view on the opposite sheet of the double-page spread, see folio 12 (D14675).
