With the page turned horizontally, the viewpoint is high above the River Danube near the Walhalla memorial, looking down over the spire of the pilgrimage church of St Salvator to Donaustauf, with St Michael’s Church beyond the old bridge below the hilltop castle ruins. In the distance, up the leisurely meanders of the river, are slight indications of Regensburg. Compare the view from a little further back on folio 36 recto (D31346).
