The west front of Trieste Cathedral, with its rose window and adjoining campanile (now obscured by trees on this side), is seen on the right with the central keep of the Castello di San Giusto beyond, above the sweep of the rugged coast overlooking the gulf towards the left. This is one of a sequence of views in and around the Adriatic port city of Trieste made working inwards from the back of this sketchbook; see under the recto for details (D30109).1
