With the page turned horizontally, there are two slight waterfront views of the harbour at Trieste, the upper with the Castello di San Giulio on the skyline to the east. Below, the spar and mast of a moored boat are continued across the gutter from the study on folio 61 recto opposite (D30117).
This is one of a sequence of views in and around the Adriatic port city, made working inwards from the back of this sketchbook; see under folio 57 recto (D30109).1
