The location of the landscapes in these two faint pencil sketches remains unidentified. The lower drawing appers to show buildings and trees beside a lake, whilst the sketch at the top is a distant view of hills. Turner has annotated the page ‘Duck Swans’. They may represent English subjects which predate the artist’s use of the sketchbook as a notebook for his forthcoming Italian travels.
