The two sketches, inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, record successive views towards the Trough of Bowland near Hareden, the subject of another drawing in the present book, on folio 173 recto (D11341; Turner Bequest CXLV 172) and one in the Yorkshire 5 sketchbook (Tate D11560–D11561; Turner Bequest CXLVIII 22a–23). The present author has dated the series to Monday 22 July 1816.1
