Two views of Munich are rendered at top left, both in accordance with the foliation and horizontally, parallel to the gutter of the sketchbook. Taken from the Ludwigsbrücke, the view at top left shows the city from the Isar, with the Frauenkirche and Peterskirche beyond. The other view appears to show the city from Bogenhausen (see folio opposite, Tate D29958; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 73).
