With the sketchbook turned upside down relative to the foliation, Turner depicts Persenbeug Castle in a squared-off sketch at top right. At top left is part of a view continued from the folio opposite (Tate D30258; Turner Bequest CCC 65), showing the view down the Danube to Persenbeug Castle (depicted on CCC 65) and Ybbs (depicted on the present folio and inscribed ‘Epeese’). The sketch below shows Persenbeug Castle with a bridge to its right.
With the sketchbook turned in accordance with the foliation, the remaining views show Persenbeug Castle under a cloudy sky, and a view of Persenbeug Castle looking downstream which continues onto the folio opposite (Tate D30258; Turner Bequest CCC 65).
Technical notes:
Water stains present, presumably owing to the Tate Gallery flood of 1928.
