With swift summary line, Turner has made two sketches of the profiles of ruined castles atop a mount. Given their form they may show the Landshut at Bernkastel which is depicted elsewhere in the sketchbook (Tate D28406–D28412; Turner Bequest CCXC 28a–31a. See also the First Mossel and Oxford sketchbook belonging to the 1839 tour (Tate D28312–D28313; Turner Bequest CCLXXXIX 11a–12).
