This is the left half of a double-page spread continued to the right on folio 25 recto (D11408) opposite, recording the panorama of Upper Wensleydale from a viewpoint on Middleham Gallops to the south-west of the castle, panning from the north-west, with Castle Bolton in the far distance and Bolton Hall below it, right, to the north with the town of ‘Leyburn’ on the hillside to the right. The panorama is continued to the north-east and east to take in Middleham itself on the following double-page spread, folios 25 verso–26 recto (D11409–D11410).
