This detailed drawing was made with the page turned horizontally. As identified by Cecilia Powell, the setting is Augsburg,1 looking south along Karolinenstrasse towards the slender Perlachturm and the twin domes of the Rathaus. Most of the picturesquely gabled buildings in the foreground have been replaced by taller, less ornate ones. There is a view in this direction from the far end on folio 30 recto (D31655), under which Augsburg views on adjacent pages and elsewhere are discussed.
