As identified by Finberg,1 with the page turned horizontally, this is a distant viewpoint of the coastline at Portsmouth, observed from the sea. On the left–hand side, there is a tower that bears resemblance to that depicted on folio 37 recto (D10025), suggesting it may be the bell tower of Portsmouth Cathedral.
For the many sketches made at the vast naval review at Portsmouth in June 1814 occupy the middle of this sketchbook, see its Introduction, and under folio 23 verso (D10010).
