This page depicts a rural landscape. The washes of orange and red paint that cover the upper two-thirds of the sheet suggest that it is either dawn or dusk. This page is comparable to folio 44 recto (D12492) and to some of the works featured in Matthew Imms’s parallel ‘Colour Studies of the Sun and Clouds at Dawn and Sunset c.1815–40’ subsection of the present catalogue.
