This sketch possibly depicts the rolling hills of a Tuscan landscape, recorded while Turner travelled inland eastwards towards Florence. In the foreground is a river or stream with a couple of small boats moored near the bank. A row of trees is included to the left and hilltop buildings are outlined on the horizon.
