Turner’s top-right inscription possibly reads ‘Montargis’, a town in the Loire valley east of Orléans. The remainder of the page is filled with a series of rough profiles of towers and buildings, presumably depicting Montargis, which Turner executed with the sketchbook turned horizontally. The cursory outlines suggest he was sketching from a moving carriage.
