Hill describes this swift outline with dabs of wash as a ‘good example of the sort of work one would expect to result from sketching shipping from a boat bobbing up and down in the Thames estuary’. Most probably it was drawn near Gravesend or Tilbury, along with folio 18, including Gravesend and its church, and 18 verso (D05794, D05795).
