For barges in this sketchbook, see note to folio 5 (D05965). While most are shown sailing in open water, this one is aground at low tide, presumably near Turner’s Hammersmith lodgings at Upper Mall (see Introduction, and address inside the front cover (D40650). The sketch shows houses with bay and bow windows overhanging the riverbank.
