Drawn with the sketchbook inverted, this view continues on folio 48 verso of the sketchbook (D06814). The view is westwards towards London, from the slopes rising to the Observatory; a similar view is on folio 48 (D06815). Turner may have used these sketches for the working drawing (Tate D08228; Turner Bequest CXX N) for his 1809 picture, London (Tate N00483).1
