See folio 45 of the sketchbook (D05662) for another view probably of the same scenery, identified by Finberg as Herstmonceux Castle and by Edward Croft-Murray as Pevensey Castle, but more likely to be Battle Abbey from the west. Here, the profile of the gatehouse seems clearer, upper left of centre.
