Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Like folios 11 and 15 of the sketchbook (D10430, D10438), the latter having the same view from slightly further away, this was misidentified by Finberg as Windsor. The subject is Eton and, as Eric Shanes observes, the same view as in the watercolour (private collection)1 engraved by William Radclyffe in 1831 for Picturesque Views in England and Wales.
