This subject does not seem to be the River Thames, as Finberg suggested. It is probably Sandwich and the distant church with its Dutch or German-looking cupola either St Peter’s, Sandwich, or more likely St Mary’s, Woodnesborough, a little way inland from the town. The date is odd as the sketchbook is made up of paper watermarked 1813.
