Drawn with the sketchbook inverted and continued on folio 22 verso (D10371). See catalogue note to D10371 for Turner’s watercolour Hastings from the Sea (British Museum, London)1 based on the drawings here. The upper part of this leaf is occupied mainly by Hastings Castle; the lower portion has a closer view of the section of the town below it to the right.
