Dunbar Castle is here seen from the west as in folios 18 verso–24 (D13615–D13624; CLXVII 17a–23), with the South Battery and castle gate – continued on folio 35 (D13642; CLXVII 33) – sitting atop the rocky promontory. On the present page are the Long Craigs, with one almost conical-shaped rock also recognisable on folio 24, where the view of the castle is seen from the same spot.
There is a pink smudge at the top left of the page transferred from Ruskin’s now faded numbering in red ink on the opposite page, and a yellow mark along the top edge of the page where the painted edge of the sketchbook has bled through.
