This sketch, made with the sketchbook inverted, extends across folio 68 (D04471). For the subject, and related works, see folios 66 verso–67 of this sketchbook (D04468–D04469). Turner returned to precisely the same spot as in the present drawing during his tour of the Val d’Aosta in 1836, when he made a watercolour (Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead).1
