Turner Bequest CIV 72a
Pencil on white laid paper, 98 x 162 mm

Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Drawn with the sketchbook inverted. See Introduction for Turner’s travels in North Wales in 1808, and his fondness for fishing. Although the identification is tentative, this sketch might depict the Vale of Llangollen and the River Dee; views of Llangollen follow from folio 77 verso (D06960; Turner Bequest CIV 76a). As all these are drawn with the book inverted, Turner may have been working from the back of it at this point.
