Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Numbered by Finberg as folio 7 in this book, this has since been rebound as folio 8. Fort Rouge, a wooden ‘bateau fixe’ built by Louis XIV to defend Calais, stood on piles just outside the harbour. It was burned down in 1856.
