Across two pages, drawn with the sketchbook inverted, is a landscape composed of just a few undulating lines representing distant hills. A building at the right of folio 39 (D25599) may be Brough Castle, as depicted several times already in this sketchbook (see folio 36; D25593). This is therefore a view from the road to the north of the Cumbrian town of Brough with the hills to the east and west of Kirkby Stephen.
