This sketch, drawn with the book inverted, of a pier with a lighthouse and several other structures is likely to be Breakwater Light (established 1826) at the entrance to the Tweed at Berwick-upon-Tweed. There is another sketch of the same pier or breakwater on the verso of this page (folio 60 verso; D25636). Turner made studies of Berwick-upon-Tweed in the Berwick sketchbook (Tate D25644–D25761; D41232–D41234; Turner Bequest CCLXV complete).
