Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Finberg interpreted these slight sketches as ‘Rocks on the coast’, presumably connecting the page with the coastal views on nearby folios which have subsequently been tentatively identified as Leith (folio 21 verso–22; D25679–D25680). The following sketchbook page (between this and folio 23; D25682) has been removed. Perhaps that page would have provided further clues.
