The sketches on this page may be of the Ettrick Water near Selkirk. Although there is nothing very distinctive on this page, the river and its banks are similar to sketches of the river in the Abbotsford sketchbook (Tate D26072; Turner Bequest CCLXVII 82). Turner also sketched Selkirk in the Edinburgh sketchbook on his return to Scotland in 1834 (Tate D26173–D26175; Turner Bequest CCLXVIII 40a–41a).
The larger sketch probably continues from folio 31 (D25697) and shows the bend of the river to the south of Selkirk. The view is therefore from the west of the town, across the Ettrick water. At the top of the page is another sketch of the riverbank with a few houses or huts.
