Manchester Collegiate Church (now the Cathedral) is seen here from the south-west, perhaps from the bridge that preceded the later Victoria Bridge. Although the tower still looks very much the same as in Turner’s sketch, it is in fact not the same tower that turner would have seen as that was demolished in 1864 and replaced in 1868 with an exact replica (apart from being six feet higher). Turner drew the view in the opposite direction on folio 35 (D25704).
