The four sketches on this page were all made from around Keswick and Derwentwater in the Lake District. Three of the sketches were made with the sketchbook inverted. At the top is a view of a lake and hills labelled ‘Base’, which must be Lake Bassenthwaite from the south flanked by hills including Skiddaw at the left (see folio 24; D25807). Beneath this is a sketch inscribed ‘Skiddaw’ which shows the mountain from the south (see folio 20 verso; D25800). The sketch at the left inscribed ‘waterfall’, and the sketch beneath made with the book turned to the right and inscribed ‘Lordore’, both show the Lodore waterfall at the southern end of Derwentwater. The latter includes the River Derwent in the foreground.
