This view of Kendal Castle was made from the River Kent to the west. Figures work on the river bank or perhaps in a boat in the foreground. At the left is one of the bridges over the river, perhaps Nether Bridge.
At the bottom left of the page is a small sketch of Kendal Parish Church (see folio 14; D25787), with the obelisk opposite Kendal Castle (commemorating Castle Howe) at the western side of the town to its right. At the bottom left of this sketch is what looks like a tiny pencil inscription of the word ‘ash’, presumably referring to nearby trees.
