Continuing on folios 15 and 16 (D25954, D25956; CCLXVII 15, 16) is the sketch that Turner used as the basis of his watercolour, Melrose 1831 (National Gallery of Scotland),1 engraved for part 6 of Sir Walter Scott’s Poetical Works. The present page shows the Eildon Hills from the east, and continues on folio 15 looking along the River Tweed towards Melrose Abbey.
