The rough sketches on this page and folio 38 (D25992; CCLXVII 38) both show a similar view of a ruin that has been identified as part of Roxburgh Castle near Kelso in the Scottish Borders (see folio 36 verso; D25989; CCLXVII 36a). Drawn with the sketchbook inverted, the ruin stands at the top of a bank (castle mound) with the bank of the Teviot beneath, where a large bolder sits – which may be part of the ruins.
